A Lesser Sandhill crane, a rare sight in New England and Maine, visited our pond one day in early spring. With a 41” length and 73” wing span, it is similar in size to a great Blue Heron. It stayed for several hours and then flew away.
Coming out of the house, I was stunned to see a very large snapping turtle who decided to use our front walk as a rest stop. Not a friendly looking visitor!
