Geese Geese are intelligent and very hardy. In earlier times, geese were an important part of a self-sufficient homestead. They supplied eggs, meat, fat, feathers and down. Geese are grazers. In the wild, their diet consisted of grasses, seeds, roots, bulbs, berries and fruits with some insects and snails. They use sand and gravel in their gizzard to grind up their food. Geese bills are powerful, and serrated for grazing and feeding on slippery aquatic plants. They are curious and will pull and chew on anything.Their day is spent grazing, preening, swimming and sleeping. |
